Macbeth, Scene 2.

Option 2: Read the text or go on the Internet and read what happens in Act II. Summarize act II and then make a prediction about what you think will happen in the rest of the play.

Act 2 of the play is where the murders happen. In the first two scenes, many things happen. Lady Macbeth has her big speeches of wanting to be braver and bolder, asking the evil spirits to take away any 'womanly qualitys' that she has, and asking that the gods not watch on what is about to happen. Banquo and Macbeth have a conversation about "the three weird sisters' but decide to discuss them at another time. A popular part in scene one act 2 is when Macbeth sees the dagger in front of him, the blade pointing in the direction of where King Duncan is. Macbeth tries to grasp the dagger, but realizes it is just a hallucination, mostly of guilt. Lady Macbeth hears the call of Macbeth, and she thinks the chamberlains have awoken, and that no one has been killed yet. However, Macbeth comes unto Lady Macbeth and tells her that the deed is done. He is very shaken up though because he heard the guards say their prayers before going back to sleep, just before Macbeth killed them. They soon plant the evidence on the guards, and went to go wash their hands of the blood. Macbeth felt like he would never be cleaned, but Lady Macbeth would just keep reassuring him that everything would be fine. In scene 3 is when they find King Duncan dead. Macduff went to go talk to King Duncan but was surprised to find that he was dead, evidence planted on the guards. Everyone was shocked at this dismay, and chaos started when everyone came into the room. Then Macbeth declares that in his rage of the Kings death, he murdered the two guards. Everyone becomes suspicious of who the murderer is, and soon begin to think thoughts that it might be the kings two sons, Malcom and Donaldbain, because they have fled the scene. The reason they fled the scene is because they did not feel safe, because whoever was after their father could be after them as well.  In scene 3, Ross who is a thane and an old man begin to discuss the weird things that have been happening since the kings death. Its very dark in the daytime, tame horses are becoming wild and eating each other, and an owl even killed a falcon. Soon the news that Macbeth has been made king by the other lords and is soon leaving to be crowned.
 What I think is going to be happening in the rest of the play is that the witches will start to get involved, causing trouble with the people around Macbeth. I also think Lady Macbeth will start to turn into an evil woman, taking her rage out on everyone around her. I think that people might be suspicious about Macbeth being king and might find out that he is actually the murderer, and that he himself will be killed, and someone unexpected will be his murderer.

Witches & Witch hunts

Witches and warlocks, wizardry and magic, spells and potions, all something we hear in fairy tales and books. These things are not something commonly believe in by most people in today society. However, in the Elizabethan era, witches,witchcraft, and witch hunts were highly believed in. People would often blame unexplainable events and diseases on witches and their work. When the Black Death outbreaks happened, there was no cure for the disease so the people had to direct their anger and sadness onto someone, and witches were the main target. When people would die, houses would burn down, when there would be bad harvests, or when food would go bad people would just blame it on the work of the witches. This era brought a new intellect of supernatural things, but mostly the work of witches, witchcraft and witch hunts. The item that was responsible for people believing in these types of things were bibles and books containing religious themes. These books had many ideas about witchcraft and witches, which promoted the witch hunts in the 15th and 16th century. When books about astrology and magic started to be released in the new Renaissance the witch hunts intensified. The web site http://www.elizabethan-era.org.uk/elizabethan-witchcraft-and-witches.htm  says that in "1562 Elizabethan Witchcraft Act was passed during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It was an act 'agaynst Conjurations Enchantments and Witchecraftes'."  The people that were often thought to be witches were the old, poor, single, widowed, and unprotected. Also those with prominent deformities like extra fingers or toes and moles. When  the fear of witches and witchcraft increased, the catholic church said that anyone who had knowledge of herbs (since many women would because of trying to find cures for diseases) that they would have had a pact with the Devil, either explicit or implicit. If you were in possession of herbs, especially those who have physcidellic effects, would be executed by burning in Europe. As for a punishment to those convicted of murder by witchcraft in England would be executed by hanging, not burning at the stake which was the terrible death that was only used on French and Spanish witches. Crimes by witchcraft that were not as harsh would result in a punishment by being pilloried. Torture towards witches was not aloud as a procedure for punishing one for witchcraft.
 A witch hunt is the search for witches or evidence of witchcraft. The main reason for witch hunts was because of social, emotional and religious transformations. Witch hunts took many lives of people, including innocent ones. There are still witch hunts going on today, but no where as intense or like the ones that took place in the Elizabethan era. Now a days they take place in southern Africa, and Saharan Africa. Witches and witch hunting play a big role in the story of Macbeth because they were a big influence on him and what choices he should consider and what actions he should make.

Journal Entry #1

"I began to give up on God. I felt he must have hated me. What other reason could there be for a life like mine?"

This quote in the book makes an abundance of things run through my mind. I could not even imagine how hard David's life is to live, feeling abandoned by everyone around you including God. The fact that he still continues to fight for survival in this living hell is astonishing. The amount of stress and mental, emotional, and physical damage that he faces is inhumane and is something that no one should go through. Its sad that an 11 year old boy is already losing hope and faith in his own life just because of how he is horribly treated. I think at one point in their lives many people have given up on God or have questioned their own life before just because of a lot of stress and emotion, but it would hardly compare to what it is that David was going through. I can sort of connect with what was just said there. There sure have been times where I have given up on everyone around me and just felt empty like I'm sure David once did. However, my depressing emotions soon faded away and I would be fine again. David's emotion stayed but he would pull him self out of the dumps and think of ways to overcome 'The Bitch' . This book has really opened my eyes to a bunch of things and has helped me see the world and everyday differently. When I think things are becoming unbearable, I just need to think of everything I have and how grateful I am for it because I could have things alot worse like some people do. The book "A Child Called 'IT' " is one that many people should read because in one way or another everyone can individually connect to, and it will open your eyes to child abuse and how to spot it and hopefully have the courage to help someone who is in that situation.

Moral Dilemma

I have decided that in the incident of a fire in the Louvre, I would save Ada Artlover instead of the Mona Lisa painting. There are many different reasons of why I would save Ada instead. For one she is a human being, and the Mona Lisa is not. She has a family and lots of friends and would dearly be missed. There is not another one of her. Even though there is only one true Mona Lisa painting, there is many copy's of it so it wouldn't be as missed as a human life. Also I wouldn't be able to live with the fact that I left an innocent elderly lady in a building to die, it wouldn't be the right thing to do. With Ada being elderly and all, she would have alot of interesting story's and knowledge that could be useful to her children or grandchildren or friends some time. Just because she is old does not mean that her life is of any less value then someone who was 18. I think that if  the Mona Lisa was not rescued some people would definitely be upset about it, but would be glad to know that someone did not serve a horrible death. It just seems like the right thing to do to help an elderly human being rather then a painting, because I would want somebody to do the same for me if I was in that situation.

7. Write about how you felt when you discovered you were lied to.

I was about eleven years old, and it was around April. Everyday when I would get home from school I would go right over to the table to see if there was any letters from me. My dad was in jail for the second time for six months. I wasn't aloud to visit him, and phone calls were limited. The only way we could communicate was through letters. During the first two months, we exchanged letters back and fourth constantly. After that though, the letters stopped coming. I kept sending and sending them, but got no reply. I was so confused on why my dad wouldn't talk to me. Did I ask a question too personal that he doesn't want to talk to me? Is he mad at me? Questions like this ran through my head over and over. I even kept asking my mom why my dad didn't want to talk to me. She said she had as little of an idea as I did. I never knew why my dad was in jail, just that he did something wrong. One day after school, my mom was out grocery shopping so I went to get the mail myself. There was nothing there for me as usual, but two bills for my mom. I went to go put them in her room, in her desk where she keeps all her mail. It was then when I found out why I haven't been getting my letters. My mom had been keeping them from me. There was about ten or fifteen letters in the drawer. I took them all and sat in my room reading them. Some were addressed to me, and some to my mom. I remember that I couldn't stop crying when I read them. I found out so many things that my parents have kept from me just from reading those letters. Why my dad was always gone, why he was in jail,  why he wasn't aloud to have custody of me, and why mom didn't want me to read those letters. When my mom got home, all the sadness that was inside me immediately turned to anger. I fled down the stairs holding all the letters and just stood there and looked at her. She got a shocked look on her face that quickly turned into a pissed off look . 'Why the hell were you in my room? That's my private stuff you're not aloud to go in there!' is what she said to me. My throat felt dry and like I couldn't speak, and I started to cry again. Between tears I shouted 'Why would you lie to me, and keep me from talking to my own dad!' . I didn't want to re-visit any of these answers, so I just ran to my room. I didn't come out. I stayed there the entire night until my mom came upstairs into my room to apologize. She said that she was doing this for what she thought was my own good, but realized it wasn't right trying to keep me in the dark about everything. Its crazy how well I can remember that day, and what it felt like knowing that her and my dad were both lying to me, about many things. To this day its hard to even build trust with people, because really who can you trust when at one point you can't even trust your own parents?

Rant.

Getting judged. No one likes to be judged. But why do we all do it then? No matter who we are or where we're from we've all judged someone, but hate to be judged. Its completely hypocritical, and wrong. We judge people on all different sorts of things. Race, status, hair colour, weight, popularity, the list goes on. Most of us don't think about what were exactly doing when we judge someone. We're instantly picking apart the person from just their exterior or what little bit we know of them. We've all done it, judge someone when we first just see them. "Oh she's a slut, he's ugly, their skids, she's fat, he's dirty" etc. We often end up giving them an unknowing stare that says "I'm judging you" which often pierces right through that person, they can feel it. Personally, yes. Ive judged people before unknowingly and knowingly. I'm not saying I'm proud of it or anything but I do know I've done it. AndI know that it is not something you should do, especially because you don't know that persons full story. What if that person your calling a slut, is actually a completely innocent girl? The boy that your calling ugly, is actually an amazing skateboarder? The skids you see everyday, are the brightest in their class? And the girl you called over weight, maybe she's the nicest girl you'd ever meet? We don't know these things because we don't take the time to get to know the people behind the label that we give them. What worse is when we judge people right to their face or they hear about it. They will most likely hear that comment you made about them and it will stick in their brains and they will constantly run over your words thinking about them non stop. One of the worst parts about judging people is because we don't know about all the stuff that their hiding. They could have severe  insecurity's, and your comments just make them want to break down, or do something drastic. Also you don't know what kind of family life they have. They could be raised by a single parent, have addictions running through their family, family abuse, poverty, or have had horrible things happen in their life. Things that they just want to come and escape from at school, but they can't do that because when they get there, it's just another place that they feel is like hell. We often don't think of these things at all when we judge someone, and I think we really need to start. I've been in both sides of this situation, the judger and the judged. I know what it's like to be on the other side of that line, and it's nothing nice. It's horrible and it eats away at you. If people stopped to think of peoples true feelings and what they could possibly be going throughI think they'd have a conscience and wouldn't go straight to judging someone. I've personally tried to do that myself, becauseI DON'T know what that person has gone through or is going through and I wouldn't want to do something to make their lives even worse then they possibly could be.If we all tried to stay away from judging one another, high school would be such an easier and more peaceful place to come to. It would eliminate so much drama that we just don't need. So the next time your about go and say or think "Oh she's a slut, he's ugly, their skids, she's fat, he's dirty" think about what could possibly be going on in their life and how it could effect them, also think about how you would feel if you were put in that position getting judged. Judging is not a good thing and should not be accepted, so try to take the high road and look past the masks, and inside the real person.

Top 3 Disney Movies

 Walt Disney has been making movies since 1937, and remakes of the old classics are still being produced. We've all seen many of the Disney movies when we were children - we grew up on their many fairy tales. To this day I still love watching Disney movies, but there are three that I think are the best. Those three movies are Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, and The Little Mermaid.  The criteria that I'm basing this on is the moral of the story, how fun and enjoyable the movie is, and how the characters draw you into the movie.

 Peter Pan, the movie about a boy and friends who never want to grow up, draws you into the movie with the characters because they can fly, live in a magical place, and all seem so happy. Knowing that they can fly and live in Neverland makes you wish and wonder what it would be like if you could do that too. The movie is quite fun and enjoyable as well. I think that's because of how witty some of the characters are and that they are so free living and fun. They also have romance in this movie which makes it also enjoyable for adults. This movie has an excellent moral of the story as well. 'Everybody has to grow up at one point, but that does not mean we need to give up our inner child.' This is something we can all take from this movie and apply it to our own lives. That is why I  think Peter Pan is number one out of the top three Disney movies.

  101 Dalmatians is a movie about a litter of puppy's trying to escape from the evil Cruella Devil. This movie draws you into it because its about a little,well big, family of dogs - and who doesn't love puppies?! All of the individual pups have their own name and own personality. When I watch this movie I usually connect to one of the puppies that has the same personality as me, just for fun. This movie is very enjoyable because  you never know whats going to happen next and you just want to know how the puppies make it out as one big family at the end. This is also a good family movie because it shows the benefits of working together. That's where the moral of this movie comes in. 'When you work together, you can accomplish and overcome any obstacle thrown at you'. This is a good message for children because it will help them remember that we all go through struggles and that we can overcome them. This is why I think 101 Dalmatians is second out of the top three Disney movies.

 The little mermaid is a movie about a mermaid who falls in love with a human, but her family doesn't approve. The way this movie draws you in is because its not in a setting of most classic disney movies, its underwater! Also, mermaids are made up things so its interesting to use your imagination with this movie. Not only is it underwater but the main character's friends aren't other mermaids, but a fish, a lobster, and a seagull. The little mermaid is a fun movie because it has lots of bubbly songs in it and also has quite a bit of humour in it when the mermaid has legs for the first time. Its also enoyable, for everyone aswell. Not only is it funny, but it has conflict and romance in it as well and it is interesting to see how she deals with the situatuons she is in. The moral of this movie is that 'Its okay not to be a follower, Dont be afraid to take risks and live your own life'.

Peter pan, 101 Dalmations, and The Little Mermaid are all amazing and enjoyable disney movies, and I think they are the best three out of the many, many disney movies every made, and ever will be made.

Super Powers

Invisibility, flight, teleporting, extreme strength, telepathy, telekinesis, x-ray vision, and mind control are just a few of the many superpowers we've all heard about in movies. Every since we were younger we've dreamed about being just like our favourite super hero. Although there are no such things as superpowers, lots of us have imagined what it would be like to have our favourite super power. Personally, if I were to have just one superpower and eliminate all the rest, I would have to chose teleporting. The reason I would chose teleporting, is because it would make everything in life so much easier. To be able to  just snap your fingers and be where you want to be would be amazing. You could even go around the world in a day or two ! Also, if you had to get away from a situation quickly, you would be able to. Another reason this superpower would be good, would be because it would help eliminate the usage of cars therefore reducing pollution and helping the earth.  The only thing that would be a downside to this super power, is if you accidentally ended up somewhere you did not want to be. Even so, you could always just poof your self to another location. This would also come in handy if you were in an emergency, where something was a life and death situation like being in a car accident. You could get your self to the hospital much more easily and have a better chance of survival. Even though teleporting is basically impossible, I think its the best superpower to have out of all the rest we could ever think of.
